So a couple of weeks ago, I was driving on I-495 and as usual traffic was heavy as usual. I had some bad luck that day, because as I was cruising along, I saw a rock get thrown up from the stupid van in front of me. This marble sized rock started heading towards my car in slow motion. The inevitable happened and my windshield got chipped. There was a dime-sized chip a little less than the size of a dime staring it's ugly laurels at me each time I drove.
I thought that I'd have to bite the bullet and buy a new windshield, but I decided to try the cheap $10 windshield chip repair kit at my local auto store. Much to my chagrin, it didn't really seem to help much. Perhaps I did it incorrectly, but I have little faith in the miracle promising contraptions less than a cost of a big mac. After some thought, I looked up some local stores online and found a professional place downtown that could fix my chip. I was quoted $45 for the fix. Luckily, they told me if I had insurance, they could file a claim for me, and in this case the insurance company would waive the deductible.

The fix was pretty quick. After the tech checked out my car to make sure the chip was indeed fixable, he pulled my car into the garage. The fix was pretty effortless. A mirror was affixed to the inside of the car for better visibility, then a contraption affixed with a suction cup next to the chip. The utility was aligned with the chip and resin was poured in. After a couple minutes, the utility was detached and a small piece of plastic was placed on the chip. Then a UV light was affixed for a couple minutes to cure the resin. Following the fix, the windshield was cleaned and I was sent on my way.
All in all, I got my chip fixed in 30 minutes. It's not a perfect fix as it's typically advertised as there was some scarring and the old chip was still visible, but it was definitely a marked improvement. Thanks to Jacks Glass.
